Q. Who was born on the 333rd day of the year, has had books on the bestseller list over 100 years after her death, and has a crater on Venus named after her?

A. Louisa May Alcott.

Alcott (November 29, 1832 - March 6, 1888) is one of the greatest female writers of the 19th century. You've probably heard of her most famous book, Little Women. Not only did she write this series (the history of Jo March and her family spans three books: Little Women, Little Men, and Jo's Boys) but several other books. Her Hospital Sketches is a moving first-person account of the life of a civil war nurse. Transcendental Wild Oats is a funny, yet sometimes subtly bitter, account of her life in a commune. (Yes, she lived in a commune!) She wrote well over a dozen books, as well as many poems, stories, and essays.

11-27-2001: Bet You're Wondering Where I Went!

I bet you're wondering what happened to me. After the events of 9/11, I turned my energy to creating a resource directory of information related to 9/11/2001. I spent all of my free time (and a little extra) doing that, and I didn't have any time to update this site, unfortunately. 

With LMA's birthday coming up in a couple days, I'll try to start putting up some new materials. Stay tuned, and thanks for your patience. 

11-29-2001: There's plenty to add and I've gotten started

There's plenty to add to the site and I've gotten started with a picture of Louisa's room, May's room, the Orchard House dining room, and a short story called Tabby's Table-Cloth. 

12-2-2001: More materials added

Added three pictures of Louisa and a manuscript page to the gallery; added a couple of links (lots more to add; stay tuned.)
